Creating a Consent Form for your Couples Therapy Practice
Creating a consent for that protects you and your clients is essential. Amanda's consent form has evolved over the years. In this webinar, she will go over various policies and what to consider. For instance, recording sessions, who has access to these? Who has access to files? Which part of the file? What are you legally required to disclose?
How to conduct your first session
We will discuss we will discuss how to develop rapport with two people in the room. How to determine goals of therapy, especially when they are not the same, what to track and pay attention to, and how to close off the first session.
How to Conduct an Individual Assessment and Sex Therapy Assessment
In this webinar, we will discuss the benefits of doing an individual assessment and the impact to the couple if you forgo this. In addition, we will discuss an explore possible questions you can add to your assessment. This is an interactive webinar with time to develop your assessment questions.
Working with High Conflict Couples and should you do couples therapy when there is abuse?
Most couples therapy training do not discuss how to do a sex therapy assessment, but it is an essential part of the couple dynamic. We will discuss questions to ask, how to feel comfortable asking these questions, while maintaining ethical boundaries.
When is it appropriate to let them argue? How do you contain the sessions to not do further harm? How to intervene and not let the session be a shouting match? How do you manage your nervous system in these moments and countertransference? When is it time to stop couples therapy and move them to individual therapy? We will discuss these questions and more.
What is your Secrets Policy?
Most therapists know what to do if an affair is disclosed, but what if it is different secret, like sexual orientation, past abuse, a one night stand, addiction? In this webinar we will look at different secret policies. This is a very controversial topic and policies are usually developed based on moral values. We will look at benefits of each policy, and evaluate them against different types of secrets.
Conducting individual sessions with both partners while doing couples therapy
There are some instances, where it is not beneficial to conduct couples therapy with both partners in the room, but at the same time it is not effective for the couple to see different individual therapists because they get differing information that does not support the couple dynamic. While challenging, there is an ethical way to continue to do couple therapy while seeing each partner individually. In this webinar, we will discuss when is it appropriate to do this, how to manage ethics, avoid triangulation, and ensuring confidentiality practices are clear to the couple.
Oh no...an affair has been disclosed!
When an affair has been disclosed, it is a difficult time for a couple. Couples attend sessions heightened, the betrayed partner wants answers, who, when where, how, how often, why. The other partner wants the questions to stop and move on. Sometimes it looks like they are not remorseful, when in fact they are deeply struggling. More often than not, the betrayed partner does not trust, which keeps therapy stuck. In this webinar, we look at how to hold the space and create containment for the couple, while managing your nervous system.
